Nutritionists believe that diet is the most important part of controlling obesity, while personal trainers believe that regular exercise is necessary to keep you from gaining unhealthy amounts of weight.

There is no single exercise program or diet pill that will help every person lose weight. You will need to design a balanced diet and an exercise regimen to help you shed your excess pounds and inches. First, you need to understand how people become obese. The human body requires daily inputs of five different kinds of nutrients. These are proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals.

Most people believe that all fats and carbohydrates will worsen their problems with maintaining their weight. However, some fats and carbohydrates will not cause you to gain weight, and some foods with low glycemic indices will help you lose weight. If you're serious about shedding pounds, you need to carefully watch your total caloric intake, regardless of where the calories come from.

Aerobics also prove to be highly effective to help a person reduce weight. There are three types of Cardiovascular exercises - 'low intensity cardio', 'moderate intensity cardio' and 'high intensity cardio'. If the person wants to lose their extra pounds, he must first do 'low intensity cardio' exercises, then slowly move to 'moderate intensity cardio' exercises and finally undertake 'high intensity cardio' exercises. It is essential to follow this sequence to reduce weight.
